Georgia - Florida - Georgia - Part 7

Most mornings started the same way for Clarence and I whether we were at the hotel in Florida, the river cabin in Florida or Fred's home in Georgia. Quiet time and coffee. Leah made sure that the coffee pot never ran dry until we had enough. We would sit and talk about everything under the sun including reminiscing about some of our friends who were no longer with us. The cool thing about sitting on the porch was watching the squirrels, birds and lizards; there was always something different going on.

We went to the Okefenokee Swamp and got a close up look at some of the things that we were probably sharing the river with the night before. I'm glad we waited until after we went swimming for the swamp visit. While there Clarence and I had the opportunity to get another stamp in the National Parks Passport book that we bought last year in Florida. The Passport provides another fun aspect of traveling.

That alligator came straight across a small pond and made it clear that Clarence was too close to the baby gator. It was amazing how focused on him the alligator was and he had the sense to get away before the gator reached shore.

This alligator was literally in a ditch right next to the road that we were walking along taking pictures.

The next morning after coffee on the porch once again Leah made us french toast and then I went for my final run before leaving and racing on the way back to Athens the next day. I decided to suck it up and run through the woods because we had taken a golf cart ride through them the day before and it was beautiful. My bear awareness was at 100% to say the least but it was still a really nice run.

That night we had a cookout at Jill and Toby's house and got to do some sightseeing around their place. Even the horse was drinking so once again it wasn't the best way to prep the night before a race. But what the heck, it was vacation and the racing was just an added bonus, not the focus of the trip. It all worked out fine and we had a really fun time at their place.

We left really early the next morning so that I could race in Waycross, Georgia on the way to Athens. When we got back to Athens we got cleaned up and went downtown where there was a festival going on. We ate at Ted's again, had some fantastic ribs and then went home and watched American Graffiti a movie that really reflects a lot from the time that we grew up. It was a fantastic trip but I had to get home because I was leaving again soon for Colorado!
